Why Is My Baby Anxious Around "Strangers"

Around the age of seven to nine months children might become fussy around people other then their parents.  According to Robin Goldstein Ph.D. and author of The Parenting Bible, this behavior is normal for children.  The reason for this behavior is simply part of your child’s development.  At this age a child’s awareness becomes more profound and believes that something exists as long as it can be seen.  Considering that parents are the main caregivers their comfort level resides among them.

If a child is in daycare, leaving them during this growth stage can be difficult.  Explain the situation to the caregiver so that they can provide additional attention to the child while the parent leaves.

I have found through personal experience that consistent time spent between a caregiver and a child prior to this age will greatly help decrease the anxiety felt by a child at this age when left with the specific caregiver.
